From Egyptian Pyramids to High School Periods

A year after writing them, I can now announce the release of some audio dramas using scripts I wrote for HeartMatters! (Some of the first paid scripts I have done!)

HeartMatters is a much-needed company that provides tools and information for parents and kids to help keep us safe online.  The HeartMatters app has content for all ages, including audio dramas!  I highly recommend checking out the free app--no subscription required.  You can download it here.

I am very grateful to Austin Peachey for giving me the opportunity to write these stories.  He asked me to write two sketches which are included in the first "Hearty Laughs" variety show, along with two other sketches written by someone else (which are also very good).  One is an Indiana Jones parody dealing with doom-scrolling, "Alabama Joe and the Scroll of Doom".  And the other is a Biblical parody about David and Abigail set in a modern high school, dealing with a brewing social media war, called "Dave and Abby."

One of the fun things about writing audio drama is the ability to experiment with different genres like action adventure, parody, and even high school sitcom drama!

Download the app, and give a listen to the first Hearty Laughs show, and while you're there, check out the other excellent audio dramas in the app!

Audio Theatre Central's 200th Episode

If you know even a little bit about me, you probably know that I love audio drama.  It is one of the absolute best mediums for telling stories, and if you want to know why, the link to the following episode is a good reason why! Any current involvement I have with audio drama is almost entirely due to the inimitable JD Sutter, and incidentally, he is also the one to whom I owe the creation of this website!  JD has graciously had me on as a cohost several times for audio drama reviews and as a contributor to the ATC blog, and with the celebration of the 200th episode, it seemed appropriate to link to it! If you want to know why I love audio drama and why you should too, this episode is probably the most comprehensive answer from the most authoritative people in the space. https://www.audiotheatrecentral.com/2024/06/atc200-milestone-celebration-with-industry-guests.html

Review of Adventures in Odyssey Album 76

Last month, I had the opportunity to join JD Sutter of the Audio Theatre Central podcast to review Adventures in Odyssey Album 76! I grew up listening to Adventures in Odyssey, produced by Focus on the Family, and the writers of these stories played an enormous role in shaping my ideas about what good storytelling is. In this review, we delve into some deeper ethical topics prompted by the episodes in this album, and talk some about character arcs, particularly from the perspective of a Christian audio drama.  Story has a way of teaching lessons and creating role models, regardless of initial intention, and I felt some tension in a few of the characters, which I feel the writers are working towards resolving, that I talked with JD about in this episode.  Hope you enjoy the review!  Click the link below to listen!
